Taliban justice overshadows new Afghan era

In Afghanistan, after weeks of controversy, President Hamid Karzai has finally opened a new session of parliament.

One of the most urgent challenges is to establish the rule of law in a country where many people, frustrated by corrupt officials, still turn to the Taliban for justice.

Amnesty International has drawn attention to the first confirmed public execution by stoning since the Taliban was overthrown nearly a decade ago. The victims were a couple accused of adultery.

Most of the video is too graphic to be broadcast and there are distressing images in Quentin Sommerville's report.
